Camerini d'alabastro

Introduction

The Camerino d'Alabastro was part pf the palace of Alfonso d'Este I, Duke of Ferrara. For this room he commissioned three painters: Titian, Dosso Dossi and Bellini to make bachanals. The five paintings that would result from this commission formed one big composition on the walls of the room. Under the tab for room you can see a reconstruction of the room and under composition you can see how the backgrounds of the paintings flow into each other.
In the 1630's Rubens would paint two paintings that were based on two of the paintings by Titian. If you would like to see the four paintings next to each other and compare thme you can click on the tab Rubens vs. Titian.
